Dr. Chandra P. Sharma is a distinguished scientist and expert in biomedical technology, specializing in biomaterials. He served as Senior Scientist G and Head of the Biomedical Technology Wing at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, from 1980 to 2014. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor at Manipal University and Hon. Emeritus Professor at Purbanchal University, Nepal.
Dr. Sharma trained as a Solid State Physicist at IIT Delhi and further specialized in biomaterials at the University of Utah (USA) and University of Liverpool (UK). He has published over 400 research papers with over 13,500 citations and holds 40 patents globally. His work has significantly advanced biomaterials in medical devices and regenerative medicine.
As a founder of the Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs, India (SBAOI), and the Society for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, India (STERMI), he has significantly shaped the scientific community. He has authored and edited influential books and journal issues on biomaterials, tissue engineering, and drug delivery. Dr. Sharma has received numerous awards, including the MRSI Medal (1994) and Distinguished Scientist Award (SBAOI). He founded the Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs, India (SBAOI) and has actively contributed to global biomaterials conferences.
A member of various editorial boards and scientific societies, Dr. Sharma’s work continues to shape the future of biomaterials research, mentorship, and international collaboration.
