Dr. Khalid Iqbal is Professor of Neuroscience and Chief Scientific Officer, Phanes Biotech Inc. with expertise in the neurobiology of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. He is known as a leading Alzheimer’s disease researcher, especially for his discoveries of the abnormal hyperphosphorylation of the microtubule associated protein tau and this protein as the major constituent of Alzheimer neurofibrillary tangles. Dr. Khalid Iqbal is dedicated to the development of a disease modifying treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative conditions. He received his PhD degree in Biochemistry from the University of Edinburgh, UK and Honorary Doctor of Science degree from the City University of New York, College of Staten Island. Dr. Khalid Iqbal continues to be a leader in the Alzheimer’s disease field, making stellar and lasting contributions to knowledge on the etiopathogenesis of Alzheimer neurofibrillary pathology and to the development of potential disease-modifying treatment by tau immunotherapy and neural regeneration among other approaches.
